CIB Egyptian Open returns to Giza, 6 to 16 October

The CIB Egyptian Open is back in Giza from 6 to 16 October 2026. The PSA Squash Tour published the draws on 28 August. Early rounds sit at O West Sports Club in 6th of October City. From the quarter-finals the all-glass show court moves to the Giza Plateau, with the Great Pyramid as the backdrop.

That split matters if you live in Giza or you are visiting for the pyramids. O West is an Orascom Development town on El Wahat Road, a few minutes from Mall of Egypt. The glass court is the night-time show that Arabic sports desks have been pointing at this week. Maspero repeated the plateau dates on 3 October. Trust the PSA window of 6 to 16 October over roundups that start the story on the 10th.

Two venues, one tournament

PSA says the glass court is used from the quarter-finals onwards. Everything before that is at O West. Last season the same pattern applied. Club matches in the west of the governorate, then the show court beside Khufu once the field is down to eight.

O West Sports Club is inside the O West town in 6th of October City, Giza. Orascom Development owns the town. Blue Ribbon operates the club. The squash block has eight courts, which is why the Diamond event can park a full main draw there before the plateau lights go on. If you are driving from Haram or Dokki, budget El Wahat Road traffic after 16:00. From Sheikh Zayed the run is shorter.

The plateau court is the one you see in the photographs. It is a temporary all-glass box on the sand, not a hall inside the visitor centre. Last year show-court sessions started around 19:00 local time. PSA has not posted 2026 session times in the draw article. Treat evening starts as the working assumption and check SQUASHTV on the day.

Who is in the draw

Women’s World No.1 Hania El Hammamy is the top seed. She won this title at the start of last season, beating Amina Orfi in four games, then stacked three majors and stayed at No.1. Orfi is seeded two. She is 19, already the youngest women’s World Champion and the youngest women’s British Open winner, and she is drawn to meet El Hammamy in the final again if both hold serve through the week.

Nour ElSherbini is seeded three. She won this event in 2020 and 2024, then lost a quarter-final last season to Fayrouz Aboelkheir. PSA has her on a collision course with Nouran Gohar in the quarters, a pairing that has already produced 27 PSA finals. Olivia Weaver, Sivasangari Subramaniam, Satomi Watanabe, and Aboelkheir are the other names who can wreck a seed on home courts.

On the men’s side Mostafa Asal is the top seed and the defending champion, chasing a third straight Egyptian Open. PSA notes he has lost only once in his last 29 matches in Egypt. That loss was to Diego Elias in the El Gouna International semi-finals. Elias is seeded three this fortnight. Paul Coll is seeded two after a season that included the Qatar Classic and the British Open. Karim Gawad, the 2019 champion, sits with Mohamad Zakaria, Victor Crouin, Joel Makin, and Marwan ElShorbagy as the remaining seeds.

The full 32-player lists are on the PSA site. Egyptian wild cards include Habiba Rizk and Nadia Mahmoud on the women’s side, and Adham Roshdy and Ismail Amr Abdellatif on the men’s. Qualifiers still fill several first-round slots.

How to watch from Giza

PSA is streaming the fortnight live on SQUASHTV and broadcast partners. If you cannot get onto the plateau at night, that is the reliable feed. Public ticket prices for the glass court are not in the 28 August draw note. Do not trust a Facebook screenshot for a gate price. Use the PSA tournament pages or the local promoter once they post a 2026 spectator sale.

Arabic coverage this week quoted Diamond prize money of USD 366,000 for the men and the same for the women. That matches the top PSA tier. Last year’s total compensation across both events was published as USD 712,000. The category is Diamond either way.

If you are already on the plateau for the daytime pyramids ticket, the squash court is a separate night operation. Do not assume your daytime ticket covers the glass box. Last year the show court sat in a fenced zone with its own entry. Bring a layer. October nights on the sand drop faster than 6th of October City.
