Starlight Festival Brings the First Multi-Day Rave to the Pyramids of Giza, 8-11 October
The first-ever multi-day, multi-stage electronic music festival at the Pyramids of Giza runs 8 to 11 October 2026, under the new brand Starlight Festival, co-produced by Serbia's EXIT Festival and P+US, the electronic music platform of Egyptian promoter Venture Lifestyle. Headliners include Charlotte de Witte, Pete Tong, Adriatique, Michael Bibi, Enrico Sangiuliano, Vintage Culture, and WhoMadeWho, with more than 50 artists across three-plus stages set against the pyramid backdrop. The festival's structure spans four days. The 8 October is a welcome party, 9 and 10 October are the main event days at the Pyramids, and 11 October closes with a farewell party. Doors open at 17:00 and close at midnight each main day, with the promoter confirming no door tickets and no re-entry. The age requirement is 21+, and tickets are non-refundable. The expected attendance is 15,000 per day across the festival, for a total of 30,000 over the two main event days.
How EXIT ended up at the Pyramids after losing Serbia
The backstory is unusual. EXIT Festival ran for 25 years at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia, before being forced out by the national government in 2025 over its support for student-led anti-corruption protests following the November 2024 Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse that killed 16. Founder and CEO Dusan Kovacevic confirmed the Serbian government stripped EXIT of all funding, prompting the organisation to launch a 2026 world tour spanning Egypt, India, Malta, Croatia, Macedonia, and a return to Belgrade in November.
The Egypt stop is the marquee date. "We feel that the pyramids are so symbolic that this event will have everything that EXIT stands for," Kovacevic told IQ Magazine. "There is a lot of darkness everywhere in the world, but many people see the pyramids as pillars of light, so we will be making a strong message with that." The new Starlight brand name was chosen to reflect the new setting rather than transplanting the EXIT name wholesale. Venture Lifestyle, the Egyptian promoter partner, is the same company behind the Shakira Pyramids concert in November and the Katy Perry, John Legend, and Black Eyed Peas shows in the region, and P+US is its electronic music arm built around the Pyramids as a recurring venue.
The ECESR lawsuit trying to halt pyramids raves
The festival lands in the middle of an active legal challenge. The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights (ECESR) has filed a lawsuit seeking to halt raves and large-scale music events at the Giza pyramid complex, filed on behalf of Egyptologist Monica Hanna and two other plaintiffs against Egypt's tourism minister, the antiquities council chief, and the Giza governor. The complaint alleges that powerful sound systems are "capable of destabilizing the ancient stone structures" and that laser lighting rigs fail to comply with international standards for illumination at heritage sites.
The ECESR grounds its case in Egypt's Constitution, the 1983 Antiquities Protection Law, and UNESCO World Heritage Convention obligations, demanding enforcement of existing regulations that prohibit alterations to antiquities buildings and require organisers to prevent hazards from installations. The legal action follows a recent Anyma performance at the pyramids on 10 October 2025, and names the increasing use of the site for private events as part of Egypt's tourism revenue strategy. The lawsuit's existence adds a layer of uncertainty to the Starlight Festival dates, though tickets remain on sale and the promoter has not flagged any risk to the schedule.
Getting to the Pyramids for the festival and what to expect on site
The festival site is the Great Pyramids of Giza on the Giza Plateau, accessed via the Sphinx and Great Pyramid entrances on Pyramids Road. Taxi or Venture Lifestyle-organised shuttle is the realistic transit option, with the planned Cairo Metro Line 3 extension toward the Giza area not yet operational. For visitors flying in, the Pyramids are roughly 45 minutes from Cairo International Airport by taxi outside peak traffic, and festival-goers should expect plateau road closures and security screening on approach.
For the show itself, expect a dusk-into-night production with the pyramid backdrop as the visual anchor, food and drink vendors on site (lines historically long at peak times, so eat before arrival), and mild October evening temperatures. Past P+US electronic shows at the Pyramids, including Carl Cox, Above and Beyond, Keinemusik, and the Anyma 2025 performance, established the production template Starlight will build on. The festival is pitched as a once-in-a-lifetime desert setting, but the 21+ age limit, no door tickets, and no re-entry policy make advance booking the only viable path in.
